Love is patient.
1 Corinthians 13:4a
What does this word “patient” mean?
To prolong your anger and agitation towards someone or something.
To suffer the uncomfortability of a moment in order to keep peace.
To not be trigger-happy with your anger, frustration, critique, or passive-aggressive comments.
In the face of sin, withholding rightful anger for the time being in order to give them time to repent.
To bite your tongue even when someone says something that rubs you the wrong way.
To recognize that repentance and fruit takes time and everyone who truly repents will have moments when they also sin.
To withhold and withdraw unrealistic expectations.
To wait on God’s timing even when it means that it messes up yours.
To take the risk of looking like a fool by not reacting too quickly even though others wish you would show justice immediately.
Not to fail to hate sin but rather to choose to show grace in the face of such sin.
How patient are we with our spouses, children, friends, coworkers, classmates, neighbors, enemies, ourselves, or even God?
