Even The Heavenly Language Can't Fully Describe The Glory Of Christ
Further meditations on Heaven
In Zephaniah 3:9 it says that we will have a new language in heaven. It will be a “speech of the peoples…a pure speech”. 1 Corinthians mentions how the angels have a certain “tongue” which might imply that there is a heavenly language. Revelation 7:10 seems to be pointing to the fact that we will all cry out together in one “voice” that God is glorious.
If we knew this language here and now, books upon books would be written in it and about it. It would be studied and adopted in every country. There is already an entire field of study called “Linguistics”. This language would take over all studies in this field were we to know it already on this earth. This language will be so heavenly and so beautiful that it could say far more than our earthly languages combined ever could. It would be discussed as the most capable of all languages. If there is a heavenly language then it will be beautiful and capable of further praising of God.
Nevertheless, it will still fail to adequately describe the glory of Christ that we will fully experience in heaven. It will fail to describe the serenity of assurance of forgiveness, cleansing, and righteousness that we have in Him. While we will never be bored with praising God for our free salvation, we will also never reach the point where we will feel like we have fully described the beauty of the grace of the gospel. And yet, there will be no debilitating frustration felt by us because of this. Rather, holy awe will be experienced by the fact that our knowable God is also transcendent.
The problem for Christians now is not that they don’t already have these realities of the gospel. The problem is that we are not yet glorified and fall short of understanding what we already have in Christ.
